FAQs

Where are you located?

We are located in the picturesque town of Jamestown, Rhode Island, on Conanicut Island. Just a short drive from Newport and 30 minutes from Providence, our coastal location offers a serene setting, ideal for raising our smooth short-haired miniature dachshunds. We welcome visitors from near and far to experience our beautiful seaside community.

Do you have other kinds of dachshund puppies, like long-haired or standard size dachshunds?

While all dachshunds are undeniably cute, we’ve developed a special affection for the smooth short-haired type. That’s why we focus solely on smooth short-haired miniature dachshunds. Our family primarily includes short-haired creams, with some shaded creams, black and creams, pale cream piebalds, and a few fawn (Isabella) cream dapples. Occasionally, we also have other colors and short-haired dachshunds as part of our extended Seaside Mini Doxies family. Don’t hesitate to reach out if you’re interested in a specific color.

How much do your puppies cost?

Our pricing for fawn cream dapples range from $2500-4000 depending on coloring and gender. Other colors, including black and creams, chocolate, etc are priced higher or lower. Please contact us for specifics and other details.

I have a dog already at home, should I get a male or female puppy?

We get asked this question often, and in our experience, two neutered males can get along just as wonderfully as two spayed females, or even a male/female pair. It really depends on your personal preference and how your current dog interacts with others. There’s no strict rule about which gender to choose when adding another dachshund to your family, as long as they are spayed or neutered, which we strongly recommend for responsible pet ownership.

When should I spay or neuter my dachshund?

Many veterinarians suggest spaying or neutering your puppy as early as 6 months old. However, based on what we've learned about growth plates and ensuring the best long-term health for their backs, we strongly recommend waiting until they are fully grown, around one year old. This timing is often advised by veterinarians as well and can provide your pup with the best chance for a healthy future.

Research supports this later time recommendation, especially for dachshunds, a breed that is particularly prone to back problems like intervertebral disc herniation (IVDH). A study by Dorn et al (2018) highlights that neutering, especially if done before one year of age, can increase the risk of IVDH in dachshunds. Additionally, other studies have noted that early spaying or neutering can lead to delayed growth plate closure, which may result in joint disorders such as hip dysplasia, further stressing the importance of waiting until closer to a year old before proceeding with these procedures.

How much is a puppy deposit?

A 25% deposit is required to reserve your puppy, with the remaining balance due at the time of pickup. Please note that we cannot reserve a puppy without this deposit—no exceptions

How can I place a deposit on a puppy or an upcoming litter?

After completing our puppy application, you can place a deposit using one of the following methods:

  • Venmo (any associated fees will be added to your remaining balance)

  • PayPal (any associated fees will be added to your remaining balance)

If you’re interested in obtaining a copy of our puppy application, please reach out to us here.

How many deposits do you take per litter?

We accept 1-2 deposits per gender, per litter, on a first-come, first-served basis. This secures your spot on our waiting list for a specific timeframe. If an earlier availability arises, we’ll move you up the list unless you request otherwise. If no puppy of your desired gender or color is born within your specified timeframe, you can either have your deposit refunded or roll it over to the next available option. Please note, aside from this scenario, all deposits are non-refundable—this is non-negotiable, so we kindly ask that you do not request a refund.

Can I visit the parents of the puppy before I put a deposit down?

While we understand the desire to meet the puppy's parents before placing a deposit, we are currently unable to accommodate visitors. Typically, we enjoy welcoming visitors and hope to be able to do so again soon. In the meantime, please contact us, and we may be able to arrange an outdoor meet and greet

Can I come choose my puppy in person?

To ensure the health and safety of our puppies, we ask that families choose their puppy through photos, videos, and personality descriptions as they grow. Unfortunately, we cannot allow in-person visits for selection until the puppies are 8 weeks old.

When will I be able to bring my puppy home?

We allow our puppies to go to their new homes once they are 8 weeks old. This ensures they have had enough time to grow, socialize with their littermates, and receive necessary early care before transitioning to their new families
